From alphabet cuts to animal-inspired styles: 2024 hair trends to try
As we head into the new year, we're excited to share the hair trends that we predict will be taking Sydney by storm in 2024!
First up, we're seeing a lot of alphabet haircuts like the "V" cut, "C" cut, and "U" cut making their way out of our salon. These cuts offer a softer take on the heavy layers that have been popular in recent years, and are a great way to update your look without going too drastic. They're perfect for those who want to make a subtle change, but still want to keep their hair long.
“The C-shape cut gets its name from the way its face-framing layers are cut into "C" shapes. The layers typically begin at chin length and curve inward.
The U shape basically follows the shape of your hairline around your nape, U shape look, the back and middle of the hair is kept the longest, while the sides are gradually cut shorter, giving your hair a rounded look. A bit of face framing, with the shortest pieces ending around the chin

Animals-inspired cuts are also set to be popular in 2024, with cuts like the wolf cut, butterfly cut, octopus cut, and jellyfish cut remaining in demand. We're also seeing more bespoke versions of these cuts, where we mix and match features from different animals to create unique, personalised looks. It's a great way to show off your personality (or inner diva) and give a fresh look to your hair.

Social media predicts that hair will get even shorter in 2024, with barely-there bobs, short braids, and chopped fringes being most popular. But for those who prefer to keep slightly more length, layers will still be in style. In particular, short hair cuts like pixie cuts, short bobs, and fringes are set to be huge in 2024. These styles will have an updated feel with more layers and softer cropped fringes, reminiscent of the '70s or '90s. The best thing about short hair is that it's easy to maintain and perfect for hot summer days.

Coily and curly hair already has incredible texture, so there isn’t one specific trend for this hair type. But one way to update your look is to add some internal layers and texture. You can also add some highlights to really soften curls up. This will give more shape to your curls and make them look more defined.
“For me it’s all about elevating natural curls! There are many variations of curl types, but I believe dry cutting is the best way to create and achieve the perfect cut for your curls. It allows me to see how your hair will look and sit, so it’s easy to style it yourself at home.” Says Tara, hair stylist.
90’s Midi hair trends
For those who don't like their hair too long or too short, the '90s midi cut is the perfect middle ground. The easiest way to update a midi cut is to add some internal layers and texture. This will give your hair more movement and make it look more modern. Any length that’s at the shoulder and shorter is in a ’style,' so a simple hair wash and air dry will have you looking naturally youthful. Any length longer than the shoulder will need some styling.

And last but not least, we're seeing a shift in the way highlights are being done. Chunky money pieces had their time in the spotlight, and now we're ready for the return of subtle, more natural-looking, face-framing highlights. Blonde dimensional balayage with subtle money pieces is a perfect balance of soft warm and cool highlight shades throughout the mid-lengths and ends.
“I love the 90s rock look with the money piece at the front. I like to incorporate the colour using softer blonde or brunette tones. But, it really varies on the person. You may want a soft and natural, kind of sun-kissed look with a couple of shades lighter; or you may want a hard core look with a completely unique shade in the front. I can adapt it to your personality and style.” Says Misty, hair colourist.
This technique creates a more natural look and is great for those who want to add some dimension to their hair without going too drastic. Always make sure to brighten up the silhouette of the facial features with some baby lights to balance the eye colour and soften the cheekbones. This will give your hair a more youthful and fresh look.
