Joe Orwloswki, salon owner and director of Stanley & Co Hair and a member of Mr. Smith's creative and styling team looks forward to Australian fashion week each year.
It consists of a week-long event where Australian fashion brands and designers showcase their collections to international and local buyers and the media. During these events, trends are set for upcoming seasons.
Our team at Stanley & Co Hair share a common goal of zero waste to have a positive environmental outcome for Australia. That’s why Joe collaborated this year with Mr. Smith and Auteur fashion brands. Mr Smith products have a blend of organic Australian natives which nourish and protect the hair, whilst you style it.
Auteur is a brand that prioritises sustainability, and their presentation of an extravagant yet laid-back look featuring sequins and embroidered sheer costumes. Bikini bottoms, strapless dresses with marine hues, and shimmering split maxi skirts imply the designer paid close attention to the Resort concept.
“You need to have a certain outlook and bring inspiration to adapt to the salon environment at Fashion Week. Even though we are inaccessible in the salon during that week, we gain valuable skills and knowledge in a highly stressful environment. Everyone works in a streamlined fashion to support the fashion brand. It's a no brainer. I want to share my expertise with assistants, who gain valuable experience during this time.

Hair using Mr. Smith
- Prep the hair - Add extra length using Amazing Hair Australia extensions to the nape and work upwards until the hair has blended well.
- Use a 1” curling iron to add movement into the hair and ensure an even texture between extensions and natural hair.
- Liberally apply Mr. Smith Volumising Spray directly on roots followed by lots of Mr. Smith Mousse.
- Comb through using a wide comb.
- Work towards the crown and behind the ears by taking 2” sections.
- For the top and sides, grab finer sections and saturate the hair with Mr. Smith Volumnising Spray and Mr. Smith Mousse.
- Comb through with a wide comb and work shape with fingers.
- Keep the sides and crown tight — pulling the front and giving it a slight lift.
- Start clipping the hair in shape with flat clips, through the top and sides.
- Apply more Mr. Smith Mousse through the back and finish by spraying Mr. Smith Sea Salt Spray all over — continuing to work shape with fingers.
- Secure hair with a net (especially at nape).
- Dry well with a diffuser. Then remove the hair net.
- Personalise once dry with Mr. Smith Sea Salt Spray and Mr. Smith Hairspray.
